Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina provides education programs, health care, and advocacy to help reduce unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, especially among teens, people with limited incomes, and the uninsured. Education Empowering Young People The Education Department works to make a long-term, positive impact on the sexual health of our communities. Planned Parenthood promotes positive sexuality, healthy behavior, and responsible choices, through implementing medically-accurate, intensive and balanced sexuality education programs. Our programs are innovative, bold, and effective tools for preventing adolescent pregnancy and promoting reproductive health in central North Carolina. Medical Caring, Compassionate, and Confidential The Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina health center team ensures access to comprehensive reproductive health care by providing services in settings which preserve and protect an individual’s right to privacy, dignity, and choice. Services include: -> birth control consultation and supplies, -> gynecological exams and PAP tests, -> in-clinic abortion and abortion pill, -> emergency contraception, -> pregnancy testing and options information, -> testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, -> permanent birth control- no-scalpel vasectomy and essure, and -> rapid HIV testing. Advocacy Policies that Make Sense The Public Affairs team advocates for public policies which support funding for family planning services, equal insurance coverage for contraception, better access to emergency contraception and medically-accurate comprehensive sex eductaion. |

In seeking solutions for unmet needs, the WRC provides strategic leadership through collaboration and partnerships within the community. Resources available in both English and Spanish. Free Attorney Hotline & Legal Resource Network Receive a 15-minute phone consultation with an attorney. Areas of law include: Financial, Divorce/Child Custody, Landlord/Tenant, Immigration law, Employment, Civil, Criminal law, Business, Healthcare, Employment, Bankruptcy, and Patents, Trademarks and Copyright law, Spanish speaking attorneys are available for Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury Law and Workman’s Compensation. Written informational brochures and literature available in both English and Spanish. Community Resource Counseling Resource Counseling is a confidential support, listening, problem-solving, goal setting and referral program for all women, ages eighteen and older. It is women helping women. Receive three, 60-minute sessions per quarter to help you clarify goals and objectives. Up-to-date community resource and referral information provided for your specific needs and goals. Available in both English and Spanish. Self-Esteem Workshops A monthly, four-part series on self-esteem issues for women offered during both daytime and evening hours. |

Economic Literacy - Introduces girls to basic economic and financial concepts, including money management, investments, and global economics. Girls Inc. Operation SMART - Builds girls’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Girls Inc. Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy - Bolsters girls’ communication skills as well as their motivation and resources to be in charge of their sexual health and avoiding teen pregnancy. Girls Inc. Project Bold - Strengthens girls’ abilities to lead safer lives by developing strategies for self-defense, seeking out caring adults to help with personal violence, and advocating on violence issues. Girls Inc. Friendly PEERsuasion - Builds girls’ skills for resisting pressure to use harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco, household chemicals and other drugs. Girls Inc. The mission of E-GIRLS is to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and caring environment where girls from the ages of eleven through nineteen will be empowered by developing self-respect, communication skills and decisionmaking skills, which will result in their positive growth and development. E-GIRLS will embrace all girls within the community while striving to prevent and/or address such issues as emotional and physical abuse of young girls. Our simple purpose is as promoters and educators of the means that an individual can power themselves. As such, we achieve these aims through: - Promoting empowerment in the community - in schools, churches, and other public venues. - Acting as advocates in all areas to help strengthen people through prevention, knowledge and education. - Acting as a support network for other non-profit organizations. - Embarking on specific projects to promote a cause, e.g. homelessness. |
